@00Aaron
Being that I used to work for media, I do have one question for you. How are people working in media going to paid their rent if the ad-driven model is dying? Yes, advertisers were the ones who paid my salary. The lack of advertisers laid me off and now I am looking for work. Besides the subscription-based model is also considered advertising. How are people going to stick around if they refuse to pay to listen, view, or read content? Let's face it, free doesn't make money.
@Alan
@00Aaron I see what you mean. Just run init like a non-profit, such PBS. Then media has to hire Grant Writers to get grant money.
@adhdcanadian @00Aaron Agree. Free does not make money. The answer isn't going to be easy or fun. It will involve a degree of re-invention on everyone's part. There will be a shakeout. A lot of creative people will struggle for sure. Hey, climate change will do the same thing in its own way to people: change their lives forever.
We're all creative people. This is one more challenge to our creativity.
@adhdcanadian I also work in the media as a freelance journalist, and that's why I said nonprofit newsrooms-- ones that combine small and large donations with grant funding are the ones that tend to pay me the best. But writing alone is definitely not paying the bills, so I do other work, too.
I never said free makes money. I never said free at all.
