Out of curiosity, if you're #ActuallyAutistic, do you have small or unusually small ear canals?

I ask because I do, and I've seen it anecdotally mentioned a lot when discussing ear protection--the need for smaller sizes for in-ear options. But that may be simple bias or something else.

Please boost for reach.

I've created a small, incomplete, list of instances with moderators of color.

The list and suggestions became to much to keep up on my own, so here is a Google document, docs.google.com/document/d/12p

Here's how to move accounts and take your followers with you docs.joinmastodon.org/user/mov

For people who don’t have great family relationships, this weekend can be really tough. Just know that I see you and I’m holding you in my heart as you go through it. 💜

Essential reading for all #Ancestry subscribers, though the advice is applicable for other #genealogy websites too. A major theme is to use the Card Catalogue more. Otherwise you don’t know what you might be missing. #familyhistory twitter.com/geneastories/statu

This is Lemon, our most aloof floof and fearsome predator. She always looks sarcastic. She enjoys sitting on humans’ faces as a way of dominating these large prey items. She’s obsessed with my husband’s beard. She also has the huskiest miaow of all the cats.

Sensory processing

@devxvda @actuallyautistic I use loop quiet in the shower because I can’t tolerate the sound of the water on the tile. It creates a different experience that doesn’t bother me, but took some getting used to: water on my head sounds very different because I hear it through bone conduction instead of air conduction. Now it’s almost comforting. Feels like a warm cocoon. Might be worth thinking about using them to add desirable sounds to your life (if you enjoy sounds at all).

I use loop experience (and more recently loop engage) for social situations where I want to hear conversation. For me, that doesn’t work as well because I hear my own voice too much (or my own chewing if it’s a meal). Sometimes it helps me to take one ear out so I get a mix of internal echo and external sound. Both are toned down a bit by the mix. Still not perfect.

I wish there were a hearing aid-like product that gave the wearer the ability to finely tune sound frequencies and volumes like a studio mixing board using a phone app.

@punkwasp@pettingzoo.co @stephen @SilverYote @actuallyautistic I agree talking about support needs is a much better way of framing things in my opinion. I mask well to a point and that’s a hindrance to people being able to help as we all know.

Hi again #DisabilityMastodon - I work for the Remote Access Archive. We’re documenting how we collectively curated remote access both before and since the start of COVID. With twitter crumbling, I want to know: what were your favorite / most memorable #DisabilityTwitter hashtags?

Pls boost + add your faves in the replies! (And hmu if you’d like to be interviewed / submit a self-narrative about remote access)

My favorite thing about talking with the #neurodivergent community is I don’t have to do the extra work of explaining myself when I speak. Wow I did not realize how much I’ve learned to just naturally do this with others. It’s so easy to communicate with my tribe. It’s really such a relief by itself. And there is no way I could explain this to anyone who is not on the #autism #spectrum and have them understand just how much I accommodate people in this one little but huge way on most days.

@wheelydivergent @wolfnsunflowers @actuallyautistic Ikr! Every time I find an #ActuallyAutistic #Intro post I follow and boost so they can find their people!

Tbh the urge to #hashtag everything is strong; my #Autistic brain likes it for some reason. #Mastodon has converted me and I'm not complaining!
